Release notes

What's new in v0.7.0

  • Light Splice is now called LiteSplice. Your projects folder moves to Movies › LiteSplice (Videos › LiteSplice on Windows) the first time it opens, with everything inside it.
  • Smooth all now tells you how long it will take before it starts, and counts down the time left while it runs.
  • Smoothing 30fps footage to 60fps now invents half as many frames — it was making twice as many as it needed, so it takes about half the time.
  • Dragging the playhead slowly forwards while zoomed in no longer flashes frames from earlier in the footage before settling.
  • Smart Brush: painting partway into a clip now tracks backwards and forwards from the frame you painted — the mask stays right on that frame and the frames before it.
  • Smart Brush now starts on Fast tracking with a brush size of 20.
  • The × on an effect removes just that effect; an adjustment layer stays on the timeline for the next one.
  • "+ Add effect" is gone from Properties — the fx button up top does the same.
  • Hovering a colour preset no longer makes the list jump.
  • The Compare line in the Color tab no longer lags as a grade gets heavier.
  • Release precomp: right-click a precomp to put its clips back on the timeline where they played.
  • Scaling a clip in the preview now locks its edges to the canvas edges when Snap is on.
  • Rulers: a new Rulers button under the preview adds horizontal and vertical lines you can move and turn, for lining things up. They are never in the export; the Rulers menu can hide, show or clear them.
  • Hovering a button now just tells you what it is (and its shortcut) — and why, only when it can't be used right now.
  • Pen shapes: Shapes ▾ → Pen, then click on the preview to draw your own shape — the same way the mask pen works.
  • The right-hand panel has Audio and Speed tabs beside Properties and Color. Color's controls live only in the Color tab now.
  • Separate stems starts with nothing ticked.
  • G opens the graph editor.
  • Parent is now the last row of Transform.
  • The Animations menu has a tab for each kind: In, Out, Loop, Move and Letters.
  • Pen (shapes and masks): a curve handle can be dragged before the shape is finished — it used to place a new point instead.
  • Stabilization: Properties → Stabilization → On steadies shaky footage. Smooth keeps your camera moves, Strong steadies harder, Camera Lock holds the shot still. It zooms in only as much as it needs to hide the edges, analyses a 12-second 4K clip in seconds, and its Warp setting (off unless you turn it on) also steadies the parts of a phone shot that wobble on their own.
